Hi MVLA Families! Tomorrow we will have an evacuation drill. This drill will look and feel just like a fire drill to the students. We will not be leaving campus and there will be no changes to our schedule for this drill. It will take no more than 10 minutes. Happy Wednesday!

In June, the National History Day a non-profit organization in College Park, Maryland, and the Smithsonian National Museum of American History announced that 48-student-produced exhibits would be featured in a live showcase at the museum on Flag Day, June 14.
Middle and high school students competing in the 2023 National History Day, national contest, created the exhibits on display.
Many of the National History Day students whose projects were selected for this showcase by the National History Day affiliate coordinator, addressed topics relevant to their own states’ or local communities histories.
Nearly 2,700 students were in college park to compete.
Also representing Las Cruces Public Schools at the exhibition were Mesilla Valley Leadership Academy students Maddie Sandel and Lily Louick, both 12, and Alivia Villanueva, 14, along with their teacher, Morgan Harding.
The National History Day is a yearlong academic program focused on historical research, interpretation and creative expression for students sixth through twelfth grade.
They reflect the NHD theme, Frontiers in History: People, Places, and Ideas.
Tonight, the LCPS Board of Education recognized one of our very own from LCPS, Lilah Berkson a 7th grader from the Mesilla Valley Leadership Academy, who was selected to have her exhibit featured at Smithsonian National Museum.
Lilah traveled to Washington D.C. to show her exhibit, “Adolf Hitler: A Pioneer of Propaganda in the Media,” and was featured in the museum’s June 14 national history day showcase exhibition.
This is a tremendous achievement for any student to receive. You did a wonderful job, Lilah! Keep up the good work!

Dear parents and guardians, several schools at LCPS have gone into a shelter-in-place due to inclement weather and lightning detected within 10 miles of our schools.
Upon the occurrence of lightning at dismissal time, students who drive may be released based on principal’s discretion. All bus riders and walkers will be sheltered until the area is deemed safe.
If you are picking up your child while a school is sheltering in place due to weather, you may do so at your own risk. We apologize for the inconvenience.

This morning, staff at Las Cruces Public Schools gathered outside of the Dr. Karen M. Trujillo Administration Complex to welcome Superintendent Ignacio Ruíz to the district. Thank you to the Las Cruces High School Drumline for a wonderful performance!
