Mesilla Elementary School

Las Cruces Public Schools hosted their annual LCPS Practice District Spelling Bee, on January 20, 2023, at the Performing Arts Lab at Las Cruces High School. In total, 24 participants participated at this event – four from middle school and 20 from elementary. The first-place winner of this event, Cephas Lujan (8^th grader from Zia Middle School), won the spelling bee with the championship word, G-O-R-S-E, in round 15. Lucy Smart, 4^th grade student from Tombaugh Elementary took second place, and Vista Middle School’s 6^th grade student, Levi Montez, took third place. Congratulations to the winners of the 2023 LCPS Practice District Spelling Bee!

All participants of the district event took first-place at their school spelling bee. The first-place winners from each school site are invited to represent Las Cruces Public Schools at the El Paso spelling bee. The first round of the El Paso spelling bee consists of an online preliminary (El Paso Online Preliminaries). Parents/guardians/families will receive notification via email of when to have their student login for this competition the week of February 20, 2023 – February 24, 2023.  The second round is the 2023 El Paso Regional Spelling Bee. Students who are successful in the El Paso Online Preliminaries will move on to the El Paso Regional Spelling Bee. These spellers will be notified the following week, February 27, 2023 – March 2, 2023.  The 2023 El Paso Regional Spelling Bee will take place at Andress High School (5400 Sun Valley Drive) in El Paso, Texas on March 24, 2023.
