At its April 11 work session, the Las Cruces Public Schools Board of Education selected the Austin-based JG Consulting firm to lead the search for the next district superintendent. Separately, the board also named a committee of parents, students, administrators, staff and representatives from local business and government sectors to serve on a search advisory board.
The primary responsibility of JG Consulting will be to serve as the main point of contact to the Board for all matters related to the superintendent search, following a plan approved by the board in March. They will begin their work with the Superintendent Search Advisory Committee on two principle issues related to the search: the criteria desired in a new superintendent, and to generate interview questions from the stakeholder perspective to be asked of the finalists in a facilitated public forum. An introductory meeting will be held virtually Wednesday evening, with a series of subsequent meetings to follow.
Also at Tuesday’s work session, the board voted to expedite the search, shifting a few key dates that could place a new superintendent in LCPS before the start of the 2023-2024 school year.
An updated timeline for the search includes the following key dates:
April 12 | Consulting firm meets with Superintendent Search Advisory Committee |
April 25 | Criteria, minimum requirements, characteristics and salary range presented to the Board of Education for approval. |
May 30 | Pool of applicants to be screened. |
June 9 | Board meets in executive session to identify semi-finalists |
June 30 | Board narrows list to identify finalists |
July 7 | Finalists to be interviewed in a public forum. |
July 24* | Board conducts interviews of finalists in closed session. |
Aug. 1* | Board evaluates data in consideration of the final candidate selection. |
Aug. 15* | Board to make final superintendent selection at its regular public meeting. |
*By the authority of the board president, some of these dates could change.
