Paid Student Internships Available for Students 15+ Application portal now open

High school students have an opportunity to apply for summer internships and earn $13 an hour, thanks to a coordinated effort with Doña Ana County and the High School Summer Internship Program.

The expansion of a paid summer internship for high school students is in alignment with the Las Cruces Public Schools strategic plan, highlighting an unprecedented expansion of experiential learning opportunities for students. This investment in our future, according to LCPS Superintendent Ralph Ramos, will transform the way students think about future careers.

“If one of our students is thinking about a career in construction, banking, the dental field, or in media – just as an example – why shouldn’t they experience a salaried, real-world opportunity to explore that? We have excellent programs in our Career and Technical Education department, but this expansion is a monumental shift in how we offer students resume-building opportunities.”

The High School Summer Internship Program is for high school students 15 years of age or older. Students can work on a part-time basis, typically 20 hours per week, but not to exceed 200 hours over the course of the summer. There are over 800 positions to fill, and students’ career interests will be a priority consideration. Applicants can click here to learn more, or students can apply directly using this link

Selected students are required to attend one of three employee orientation sessions at Doña Ana County on Thursday, May 26 at 2 p.m., Friday, May 27 at 9 a.m. or Friday, May 27 at 2 p.m.

The program is also seeking businesses interested in providing engaging work and adult mentorship to students. For their participation, Doña Ana County will pay the students’ salaries and will cover the liability and worker’s compensation insurance for the intern.
